David Moyes reveals Manchester United tried to sign ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale ahead of Real Madrid – ‘We had a helicopter ready’
Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has revealed the club had a helicopter ready to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford before the Welshman moved to Real Madrid in 2013.Moyes was appointed Red Devils manager following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, but was sacked after just ten months in the job during a disastrous season. The Scot didn’t even see out the whole campaign, with Ryan Giggs replacing him for the final weeks and securing United a seventh place finish in the Premier League.Moyes signed a six-year contract with United but was dismissed after just ten months2

Moyes, who left Everton for United, has since struggled to establish himself having had short spells at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham since his Old Trafford dismissal. But things could have been a lot different for Moyes had Bale not moved to the Bernabeu for a then world-record fee of 85million and the 55-year-old claimed United believed they had a chance of nabbing the ex-Tottenham star from Madrid’s grasp.Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Moyes said: “By the time we got to the end of the transfer window, we always thought we had a chance of getting Gareth Bale.Bale eventually completed his move to Madrid in August 20132

“We hoped we could talk him out of going to Real Madrid because it was already half done.“We had offered more money, we tried to entice him. We did [have a helicopter ready] and we tried.”Bale has won four Champions League titles and one LaLiga crown with Los Blancos. Moyes then went on to reveal that he had an agreement in place to sign Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich, however, Moyes’ sacking led to the deal falling through and the German moved to Real Madrid in July 2014.He also revealed former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas was close to joining United from Barcelona but the move never materialised.

Xhaka is honestly one of the most disappointing player I've seen in an Arsenal shirt. This is just from the few games I've seen him play in, but when he signed from Moenchengladbach, I was thinking it was a great young talent that Wenger captured and they have a midfielder to be feared, but he was none of that in the few games I've seen him in.
