The Blues first second leg match of the League Cup took place in the 1972/73. They had lost 2-0 to Norwich City and were then beaten 1-0 in the return fixture. It would be 11 years before they reached this stage again, losing twice to Sunderland, before suffering the same fate against Sheffield Wednesday in 1990/91.A decade later and the Blues lost in humiliating fashion against rivals Tottenham in 2002.4

Chelsea were surprisingly knocked out by Swansea in 2013. The second season of Mourinhos second return saw Chelsea overcome Liverpool at the Bridge, while their most recent match was a losing effort to Arsenal last January.
