Mount’s talent was apparent from a very early age. Born in Portsmouth, he was competing in under-six leagues at the age of four while spending one day a week training in the academies of Pompey, Southampton and Chelsea.5

Mount is yet to make his senior Chelsea debut

In 2005, six-year-old Mount joined the Blues. He made his under-18 debut in the 2013/14 season and worked his way into England’s youth set-up the following campaign.During the 2016/17 season, the youngster established himself as a regular in Chelsea’s under-18s and under-21s, netting ten goals in 39 appearances. Chelsea rewarded him with a four-year contract in 2017, running until 2021, before loaning him out to Dutch club Vitesse – the stomping ground for so many Blues academy products.While many bright Chelsea careers fade away in the Netherlands, Mount’s loan spell was incredibly fruitful.5

Mount starred on loan at Vitesse

The teenager made 39 appearances in all competitions for Vitesse, scoring 14 goals and notching up 10 assists, while appearing in the Eredivisie Team of the Week on several occasions and winning the club’s player of the season award.Upon his return to Chelsea, Mount was immediately loaned out to Derby, who had recently appointed Blues legend Lampard as their new manager.The 19-year-old scored on his debut as the Rams beat Reading 2-1 and most recently netted in their dramatic play-off semi-final win over Leeds.5
